    The Development Engineer is an exciting opportunity to work on software for real-time measurement and control software that is used by our customers to perform a variety of mechanical and biologic tests with our electro-dynamic test systems.
     
    Larger new product development opportunities will exist after demonstrated growth, understanding, and accomplishment.

    Typical tasks of the position include, but are not limited to

    • Provide engineering support to service engineering on in-field, software related customer support issues.
    • Provide engineering support to manufacturing on electrical and software related system checkout issues.
    • Assist with software validation and functional testing leading up to new software releases
    • Assist mechanical design engineers with electro-mechanical motor testing and validation of performance.
    • Perform experimental analysis tests of new components or systems, including validation of software features and system‐level performance.
    • Perform checkout procedures to ensure proper system operation with special attention to any new and customized system features.
    • Contribute to new product development projects from system specification to prototyping and testing phases.

    The successful candidate will have a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience that would include the following

    Required Education and Experience:

    • BS in Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering 
    • 2 + years related experience

     

    Required Skills:

    • Ability to work in a team environment as well as self‐directed.
    • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience using data collection tools
    • Technical depth and breadth required to track down root cause of system issues from application software, embedded software, electronics, or mechanics.
    • Excellent organization and communication skills
    • Willingness to work on fast paced, challenging engineering projects

     

    Desired Skills:

    • Experience working with or operating electro-mechanical systems.
    • Academic experience in electric circuit analysis
    • Ability to read and debug established C/C++ embedded code
    • Electric circuit (schematic) design experience.
    • PCB layout experience
    • Experience using automated software test tools and processes
    • Ability to read and debug established code for Window’s based PC applications written in C# or similar
    • Ability to model dynamic systems or have a practical understanding of the dynamic state equations for mechanical and/or electric systems.

    Intermediate Capabilities In:

    1. Altium
    2. Matlab (Simulink a plus)
    3. Solidworks
    4. Programming (C, scripting language, HTML?)

    The Ideal candidate would have cross-discipline knowledge of the domains involved in mechanical test systems and their application. The candidate does not need to be an expert in all areas but should feel comfortable in some of them and should be cognizant of the others:


    • Closed loop (PID) Motion Control, mechatronics, RTOS-based real-time embedded systems
    • Human Machine Interfaces, Graphical User Interfaces
    • Mechanics of Materials, Concepts of stress and strain, Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA)
