    As part of the Research and Development team provide theoretical and practical expertise and support in the field of Thermal Analysis. Primary responsibility is toward product development and innovation, but will also include market research and support to the SMS organization through internal training, customer support, and attendance at external conferences.

    Typical tasks of the position include, but are not limited to

    • Participates in all new developments as part of the R&D team tasked with developing new products. For some projects, might be involved with development of mathematical algorithms for instrument control or data analysis that would be implemented by software engineers within embedded or upper level software.
    • Advise and consult with Product Management, Engineering Management, and other functional groups during the development of New Product Proposals (NPPs).
    • Work closely with members of the engineering and product management teams to test and verify performance for proof-of-prototypes, engineering prototypes, and pre-production prototypes.
    • Assist Product Management by providing high-level applications support in the field of thermal analysis. This might consist of supporting customer demonstrations, customer support activities such as applications consulting and troubleshooting, participating at trade-shows, presenting high-level theoretical papers at technical conferences, etc.
    • Help evaluate competitive products and consult with Product Management and other functional groups on how our products relate to competitive offerings.
    • Assist in evaluating new technologies which might include consulting with outside organizations such as universities, research institutions, or other outside companies.
    • Participate either singly or with other internal or external personnel in applying for patents.
    • Assist Engineering Manager as necessary to meet departmental objectives as related to the technology product line.

    The successful candidate will have a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience that would include the following

    • Knowledge normally acquired through completion of a four (4) year bachelor’s degree in a Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
    • Familiarity with basic engineering principals
    • Experience with instrumentation, measurement devices and mechanisms.
    • Ability to comprehend the scientific theories that guide the technical requirements of the instruments.
    • Expert user of TA Instrument product lines.
    • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles of thermal analysis.
